Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi lived his life around this quote: "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always." This quote is saying that even when Gandhi thought there was no hope of succeeding, in the end the people with good intentions will win, and the ones with bad intentions will fall. Throughout his life Gandhi stood up for what he believed was right, no matter what risk it posed to him. He lived by this quote by displaying courage and leadership in everything he did.
Gandhi showed courage in numerous ways throughout his life. One of the first displays of courage was in South Africa when the British still had control over it, and they made all Indians carry an identification passport. Gandhi and others were burning the passports in an act of protest against this law. It wasn't long before British soldiers stepped in, and told the peaceful protesters to stop burning the passports. However, Gandhi and others kept burning them. Even when the soldiers started beating Gandhi, he still wouldn't stop tossing the unnecessary identification into the fire. This showed a tremendous amount of courage because Gandhi subjected himself to violence in order to stand up for what he believed in, and he didn't stop making his point until he was physically forced to. In addition, Gandhi showed leadership in many situations as well. One example is when people were marching for salt in India. Gandhi was front and center throughout the entire march, and he did not back down when met with opposition. When the British soldiers came with horses and tried to attack the peaceful protesters, they simply laid down in the road and did not retreat. Gandhi refused to back down and surrender to the British's wants when they were unfair to Indians. This act showed leadership because Gandhi did not go back into the crowd when the British came, and tried to force them to stop their peaceful movement. He did not give up, and tell the people to go back home. Instead he kept on marching, and did not stop until he was finished.
Mahatma Gandhi was a courageous leader, and he is, and will continue to be, remembered for those traits among many others. Even when he was against all odds of succeeding, he never gave up fighting for what he believed in. He discovered that eventually, if you fight hard enough, the people with bad intentions will fall, and the ones with good intentions will succeed. So even throughout all the hardships and challenges he faced while fighting for his beliefs, he remembered his purpose. He remembered that quote, and shaped his life and actions around it. Because of this, he succeeded in securing equal rights for his people, and he died an accomplished man.

Pop Culture Universe: Song below is an example of Indian pop culture. Shreya Ghoshal, the artist, is a well-known female singer in India. Some people even rank her to be in the top 10 best Indian singers. As soon as a devoted fan listens to her beautiful voice, they immediately recognize the woman creating the amazing sounds. The second song below is an example of American pop culture. This video is of a song called "How Do I Live" by LeAnnRimes, who is another important female in American pop culture. She is also a pretty well-known singer,(although she is more known in the older generation), and a large variety of fans can identify her through her music too. Both of these important figures connect in many ways, but one of the most obvious is in there music. While Shreya Ghoshal sings about how her life is empty and without meaning without her love, LeAnn Rimes questions how she can go on without her love. So even though the two women come from very different backgrounds, they both connect on an emotional level.
Globalized World:
The non-profit organization that I found and researched was the "Shining Hope Foundation." It was created in 2010 by a French family, and it's mission is to help communities within India live in balance with animals and mother nature. This foundation does this by providing communities in India with some education and health care. Some of these programs include: medical camps for the "untouchables" in the Hindu caste system, mother and child health programs , health and hygiene programs, tuberculosis centers, etc. The "Shining Hope Foundation" is also working to provide homes in India with sustainable, environmentally-friendly energy. This benefits the people because it provides jobs for those who are out of work, and it provides homes with light in order for children, as well as adults, to do their work even after dark. This foundation helps communities throughout Bihar, India and Bodhgaya, India.
The "Shining Hope Foundation" connects with people all around the world. This foundation was created in order to help others, and many people also feel that same compassion that drove the french family to found this organization. Other people want to get involved in a great cause that benefits others, and this foundation's website makes it hard to ignore the hardships that are plaguing Indian villages. This program allows people everywhere to sign up for daily newsletters, donate money, or even help out by doing hands-on activities with other volunteers in India. It offers something for everyone to do, whether it's just spreading the word or signing up for a partnership with the foundation, and eager people don't hesitate to help out in whatever way they can. Poverty is a universal message that's understood in places all around the world, and any compassionate person would be able to connect in some way to the situation at hand.
